Barbaresco is a DOCG (top-level) appellation in Piemonte, made of three villages: Barbaresco, Treiso, Neive, plus a small section inside the boundaries of the city of Alba.Â
Shared within these four villages there are 66 named sub-zones, which are called Menzione Geografiche Aggiuntive, abbreviated to ‘MGA’. Each MGA offers its own different style of wine according to certain factors like aspect, altitude and soil composition. The MGA boundaries can also reflect historical ownership of the vineyards.
You can download the official MGA map for free from the consorzio website.
MTW customers explore Barbaresco and taste its wines within the ‘Borderlands III‘ self-guided walk, and by request within our ‘3, 4 or 5 nights in Barolo’ small group trips. Enquire today.
