This red grape is most famously produced in Piemonte, but in fact has a very diffuse global vineyard.
It makes for a really enjoyable, accessible red wine, whose low tannin and juicy acidity makes it lip-smacking, full-bodied and plummy.
It is increasingly being aged in oak, with some great examples coming out of Monferrato, especially Nizza and the Colli Tortonesi.
