This small and little-known appellation occupies a pocket of land at the foot of Piemonte’s western Alps. The appellation began with only eight producers, and now counts fifteen. Small it may be, but it is one of these appellations where we find delicious wines made from the rare grapes Quagliano, Chatus and Pelaverga, as well as the more ubiquitous (though no less worthy) Barbera.
The growing area is dominated by the presence of mountains and includes within its territory the grand palace of Manta (pictured with its vineyards) and the beautiful town of Saluzzo itself (above, with Monviso behind).
MTW customers taste at Colline Saluzzesi wineries and visit the region as part of our five-night ‘Liberty’ trip, which is available for private bookings of 6+.
