Cuneo was the scene in 1128 of a declaration of independence by its population from the Marquisses of Monferrat and Saluzzo and the bishopry of Asti. This independence was reaffirmed by the Emperor Federick II in 1238. During the war it was a stronghold of partian resistance. As such it is an important destination for customers booked onto the MTW ‘Liberty’ tour.
These days this elegant town, with its porticoes and shops, counts Barolo and Barbaresco within its provincial boundaries, making it one of the world’s great culinary and enological centres.
One of our favourite delicacies of the town is the Cuneesi al Rhum, a chocolate ganache soaked in rum.
