Sacra di San Michele

  • One of Piemonte’s most iconic buildings, the Sacra di San Michele dominates the entrance to the Val Susa.

Construction started in the tenth century, although there had already been a Roman outpost on the strategic rock outcrop.

Famously, the Sacra provided the insipiration for Umberto Eco to write his 1980 historical murder mystery, In the Name of the Rose.
