Spoleto’s history spans 2500 years. Travellers, traders and pilgrims coming north from Rome would stop here before continuing their way to the Adriatic coast via Norcia and Terni
As a result, during the Roman empire and the middle ages the city gained prestige and importance. The duomo (cathedral – pictured) contains important artworks by, among others, Fra Filippo Lippi (1406-1469). It also houses his tomb.
The Ponte dei Torri, pictured above, is an iconic site of the city and features regularly in films and TV programmes.
