Luxury in Piemonte & Liguria: an 8-night wine tour. Starting 03/10/24 or request for 2025.

Discover Italy's most important winemaking region, from its maritime connections in the colourful Riviera city of Genova, to the heart of Barolo.

James MacNay, IWA and Cinzia Long invite you on an unforgettable trip to a wine lover’s paradise.

The itinerary begins in the Riviera city of Genova, then moves to the UNESCO world heritage site of Langhe-Roero-Monferrato, home of Barolo.  You’ll be introduced to inspiring winemakers and sleep in four characterful hotels, from an elegant palazzo, to an ancient castle, to a pair of exquisitely appointed eighteenth-century villas.

As we journey, James, a history grad and Italian Wine Ambassador, will bring the landscape, the vines and the wine to life. The wider region is extraordinarily rich in culture, unjustly overshadowed by the high-profile names.  For this reason James will host his own private tasting presentation, revealing the secret corners of this extraordinary region through its wines.

We’ll enjoy one of Cinzia’s cheese tastings and legendary picnics in a local beauty spot, and visit a magnificent castle, a Royal Palace and a prestigious pasta maker. MTW guests eat in authentic restaurants, from traditional trattorie to up-market Michelin-starred restaurants. As experienced guides, we know how important it is to plan and pace meals carefully.

James and Cinzia (a Natural Sciences grad) are experienced walking tour guides, and optional walks always characterise a MTW trip. For this trip, the walks are no longer than 3 hours, and, although steep in places, are generally of a medium difficulty. Non-walkers have the opportunity to relax in the hotel or to enjoy different experiences, and the whole group convenes at appropriate moments on the trail.
