• By turns dramatic canyon, dense woodland and vine-carpeted hill, the Roero is more varied and rugged then its more famous neighbours, Barolo and Barbaresco. Nonetheless, it is a part of the Langhe and falls within the boundary of the same UNESCO world heritage site as the ‘two B’s’.

As it is, this wild area remains one of Piemonte‘s undiscovered secrets, visited by locals and the more informed wine lover.

MTW customers are drawn here by its superlative wines, great walking trails and fabulous hotels and restaurants. Contact us today to book your next trip.

  • The famous grape produced here is Arneis, which makes distinctly-perfumed, full-bodied whites and which was, until the 1980’s, almost extinct. Roero Arneis DOCG is the region’s most prestigious appellation. Other autoctonous whites include Favorita, a biotype of Vermentino.

As for the reds, the king here is Nebbiolo, which makes a fruitier, rounder style, less ageworthy than its illustrious neighbours across the Tanaro. The prime real estate for this is Valmaggiore, one of the Roero MGAs (Menzione Geografica Aggiuntiva, the equivalent of the French cru), but there are plenty to choose from, all making high quality Roero DOCG and Roero DOCG Riserva wines.

This great MGA map, produced by the local consortium, you can view and download here.

Roero wineries which MTW customers visit include Marco Porello, Massucco, Cascina Chicco and Tenuta Carretta and Malvirà.
